The End Of The Road…For Now...
...And just like that, the year is coming to a close. It is still hard for me to believe that I am graduating from High School. It feels like just yesterday I was beginning Elementary School. I am so glad I was able to be a part of iQuest and have this amazing experience. I have loved keeping this blog, and writing about cool things I was doing and learning. The studio was so much fun and I feel like it really helped me see the lifestyle and the work a sound engineer does. I got to meet so many incredible people and listen to them create music. I am so glad I was able to do this. As much as I love helping other people create music, I also had a blast working on my own music and recording myself. I am a sound engineer and a singer and I never want to lose the singing part of my life. I am really happy I can make the two connect.
I was most productive doing my recordings here in my house because I can basically do them whenever I want. The studio was a little harder because it all revolves around when someone schedules a session. Garth was mostly very busy, but sometimes he had nothing on his calendar for weeks on end. There is no set schedule like school. It changes everyday. Like I've mentioned in a few earlier blogs, teaching someone what you are doing is difficult in a studio. In a studio, you have to be quiet. And if there is a sound proof room, you are still busy, actively listening into headphones and fixing things. Talking to someone and telling them what you are doing is not an option. You just can't do that. Even though that was a slight issue, Garth always made it a point to tell me what he did, in summary, so I would be on the same page. Most of my help came in the mixing stage, where you pick out volume changes or weird things that need fixing. I have a good ear, so that was fun for me. I also had so much fun recording a song and also being apart of the recording process in the studio. I had never done a solo project in an actual studio before, just back-up vocals, so I was so excited.
Next year I will be auditioning for the Recording Arts program at Chico, and I know for a fact, having iQuest, and an internship at a studio on my resume, will really help me out. The program is impacted and so little people get in. Anything that could help me stand out is always a plus. This class has been so much fun. I have learned so much about myself, my future, and my passion. It gave me the time to do what I love to do. And for that, I am greatful. I would hope next years iQuest class enjoys it and takes it as serious as I have. It's so much fun and I don't want people wasting it or taking advantage of it. Where my iQuest jouney comes to an end, someone else's is just beinning. Thank you Mrs. B for a great year and for a great class. The road is only beginning...
