The Road to Being S-M-A-R-T...

This week in iQuest we began the topic of goals. S-M-A-R-T goals, to be exact. S-M-A-R-T, standing for- specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, relevlant, and has a time deadline. When making goals for yourself, you have to take all of these 6 things into consideration. First of all, your goal has to be specific. You have to know exactly what you are doing, so you can narrow it down, and be 100% sure of what you are trying to achieve. It has to measurable. You have to know when you've reached the goal. It also has to be attainable. You have to make sure the goal can be met, and that it is something you can do. You can't forget about it being realistic, either. Is it relevant to your life, plans and, most importantly, are you wlling to work for it? Finally, you need a time frame. Give yourself a deadline on how long you are going to try to achieve the goal. If you can answer all of these questions, you have a S-M-A-R-T goal! Now that you have an idea of what a S-M-A-R-T goal is, lets look at a few of mine. A goal that I have for this year is to learn as much as I can from observing in the studio. I want to learn about the sound board, the technical equipment, the different mics, how to mix songs. I basically just want to have so much more knowledge about sound engineering at the end of the year, than I did just a few months ago. I was actually in the studio last night recording a song myself. Being the person recording and observing the process of sound engineering is so amazing. It allows you to do everything at once. This goal meets all of the requirements for being S-M-A-R-T. I have my time limit, it’s detailed, it’s relevant, I know I can reach it, and I will know when its reached because I will have so much more knowledge of the subject. Another one of my goals, is to graduate from college. I am going to say that I would like to be 25...just incase I change my major or spontaneously decide to become a doctor. Again, this also meets all of the requirements of a S-M-A-R-T goal. It’s specific, it’s measurable, I know when its met because I will hold a diploma in my hand, and it’s realistic. I have also given myself a good time limit. So you see, to make goals, you not only have to make sure they are S-M-A-R-T, but you also have to make sure that you are being smart!

Here is the song I recorded in the studio last night! "Broken Road", cover by Emma.
